The accessibility of the research and development and innovation activities is defined by the national innovation organisations and business and education organisations. You can find further information about the innovation organisations in the region here: http://www.nih.gov.hu/hazai-innovacios-szervezetek, or visit the website of the Regional Innovation Agency of Transdanubia http://www.ddriu.hu/htmls/.
Moreover, this region is considered to be one of the intellectual centres of Hungary. After Budapest and its surroundings, this area has the largest number of students in higher education at the University of Kaposvár and the University of Science of Pécs (compared to the number of the population). Also the region’s R+D activities are supported by the Scientific Department in Transdanubia of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Centre for Economic and Regional Studies which is based in Pécs.
Innovation activities are primarily done by international companies in the area often in collaboration with universities.
